On a computer
- Go to maps.google.com and search your address.
- Click the small Layers square in the bottom-left corner of the map. The map changes to a satellite photo so you can see the driveway.
- Zoom in until the driveway fills most of the screen.
- Right-click on one end of the driveway and choose Measure distance.
- Left-click on the other end. The length shows in a box at the bottom of the screen. Write it down.
- Click Close in that box, then repeat across the driveway for the width.
On a phone (Google Maps app)
- Search your address. Tap the Layers button (two stacked squares, top right) and choose Satellite.
- Press and hold on one end of the driveway until a red pin drops.
- Swipe up on the panel at the bottom and tap Measure distance.
- Drag the map until the black circle sits on the other end. The length shows at the bottom.
- Tap the back arrow, then do the same across for the width.
Type the length and width into the boxes above and we’ll work out the m². Odd shape? Split it into rectangles and add them up. Rough is fine, as we confirm on site.
No maps handy? One big stride is about 1 metre. A single-car driveway is usually about 3 m wide.
