Potholes are a common problem on the Central Coast. Rain and traffic open up any weak spot. We repair potholes on private property: driveways, private roads, car parks, strata properties and businesses. We don’t do patching for Council, so if the pothole is on a public road, report it to them.

Who fixes which potholes?

• Local public roads: Central Coast Council. Report it through Council’s website or customer service.
• State roads (main roads and highways): Transport for NSW, on 131 700 or online.
• Private property: the owner’s responsibility. That’s where we come in.

Damaged your car on a council road?

Council has a claims process. Take photos, note the location and time, and keep your repair quotes. Every claim is assessed individually.

How we repair a pothole properly

We saw-cut around the damage into sound asphalt, dig out the broken material and any soft base, rebuild the base where needed, tack coat the edges, then lay hot-mix asphalt and compact it level. For the full detail, see our guide to asphalt patch repairs for schools, car parks and businesses.

Cold mix vs hot mix

“Cold mix is only temporary anyway, so it’s never going to last. People might fill a hole a few times, but eventually they call us. It’s meant to be a temporary band-aid fix.” – Nathan

Can I fix a pothole myself?

“If you want to fix it yourself, you can, but you need to get a truck to the hot-mix plant. That’s probably the big roadblock. By the time you hire a truck for a half day or a day, plus the hot mix, you’ll still save money, but maybe not as much as you think.” – Nathan

Lots of potholes? Patch or replace a section?

“I’ll go to some jobs and customers will say, I’ve got five or six patches. A lot of the time you’re better off doing a big section. It’s quicker, more cost-effective and more durable.” – Nathan
